Today at lunch I called an author “narcisistic and strange.” Those around me thought I meant it as critisism; I didn’t. My favorite artists — Fiona Apple, Mary Karr, Walt Disney, Christopher Isherwood — are all self-obsessed weirdos. You have to be weird and into yourself to make self-revelation interesting.
