– — Joanna Newsom (via fagcity)
I think MDNA is a fascinating album. Thanks to Nicki Minaj, drug allusions, and campy songs about killing Guy Richie, The album sounds like a midlife crisis. Her best? Nope. Her most interesting? Perhaps.

– James Pogue for N Plus One.
At this point John Jeremiah Sullivan, Jonathan Franzen, and Lana Del Rey should put their fortunes together and buy a private island where they can live without having to receive criticism from their envious peers.

Can We Redefine Narcisistic and Strange?
Today at lunch I called an author “narcisistic and strange.” Those around me thought I meant it as critisism; I didn’t. My favorite artists — Fiona Apple, Mary Karr, Walt Disney, Christopher Isherwood — are all self-obsessed weirdos. You have to be weird and into yourself to make self-revelation interesting.

– Kent Russell for GQ. The irony is Mr. 305 actually lives in the same Orthodox Jewish community in Broward County where both he and my mother pay Hasidic Jews two dollars to have their black tie attire cleaned. Of course, the only difference between Broward and Dade is zoning, so who the fuck cares?
Fall makes me sad because winter and Spring are close. Winter keeps me inside. Spring gives me allergies, forces me to pull out an inhaler in the middle of the street, and makes me scream at the morons wearing fucking parkas in seventy degree weather. (Honestly, if you wear a parka in the sun you deserve to be slapped; you look silly.) Summer is the only thing that matters. Yet I went to college...

5 Celebrity Memoirs I Would Like To Ghostwrite
Considering my ghostwriting experience consists of writing my little brother’s third grade essay, I have no right to comment on Cookbookgate. However, ghostwriting does sound like every minimum wage job I’ve ever worked — humiliating in the moment but hilarious a few months later. That’s why I have a dream list of celebrity memoirs I’d love to write! Isn’t it...

Five Books I Should Read And Why I've Yet to Read...
1. Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. I’ve heard the hype. The first-person narration and socioeconomic themes sound great and all, but every time I remove the book from my shelf, he says says that writers never talk about themselves, which everyone knows is a load of horse shit, and writes an article about how we would like Edith Wharton better if she was pretty. (You know, because public domain...

Somedays I hate my friends at college.
ME: Not getting to study abroad is a silly white people problem. I’d like to go, but worse things have happened.
GIRL: No, it’s an intellectual problem.
ME: Um…no. It’s a white people problem.
GIRL: That’s true. If I was a minority I’d get in automatically because of affirmative action.

About my reading list
SO. I considered adding everything I read in the last two months, but then I realized that it’s impossible to remember every article from The New Yorker, Oprah Magazine, The Awl, The Atlantic, Rolling Stone, Maxim, Thought Catalog, XOJane, the Hairpin, and EW.com that I read. So the reading list is everything I remember + March 2012 forward. It’s listed as one of my pages. Let’s...

Creating A Reading List
I realized yesterday that I’m probably the only person to watch The Anna Nicole Smith Show and read Troilus and Cressida and Isaiah all in one day. So once I finish my response to The Buddhist, which fucked my mind (if the book wasn’t so hard to find I would include it on my I-refuse-to-bang-you-unless-this-is-on-your-shelf-or-ebook list), I’m going to make a list of everything I...
